Focus and Scope

Published biannually, Communications in Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) is an international

open-access journal that publishes scholarly contributions in the humanities and social sciences. The journal aims to disseminate high-quality research, encourage interdisciplinary dialogue, and provide an accessible source of information on recent developments across its fields of interest.

The journal welcomes theoretical, empirical, and review-based contributions in, but not limited to, the following areas:

  • Communication and Media Studies

  • Management

  • Politics

  • Psychology

  • Education

  • Language and Literature

  • Islamic Studies

CHSS considers original research articles, review articles, short communications, case reports, opinion pieces, and contributions addressing current issues within its scope. All submissions are subject to editorial assessment and, where appropriate, rigorous peer review.

Authorship Criteria

Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made substantial intellectual contributions to the conception or design of the study, the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data, or the development of the manuscript. All authors must participate in drafting the manuscript or critically revising it for important intellectual content, approve the final version for publication, and accept accountability for the integrity and accuracy of the work.

Individuals who have contributed to specific aspects of the research but do not meet the authorship criteria should be acknowledged appropriately rather than listed as authors.

The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that all listed authors have approved the manuscript and agreed to its submission to CHSS. Any changes to authorship after submission must be justified and approved by all authors concerned and the journal editor.

Authors must ensure that the submitted manuscript is original, has not been published previously, and is not under consideration by another journal.

Manuscript Types

CHSS considers the following types of scholarly contributions:

  1. Original Articles: Reports of original theoretical or empirical research.

  2. Review Articles: Critical and systematic examinations of existing literature, theories, or research developments.

  3. Case Reports: Detailed analyses of relevant cases that offer meaningful insights or implications for research or professional practice.

All submissions must comply with the journal's author guidelines. The editorial team determines whether a manuscript is suitable for consideration based on its relevance, originality, scholarly quality, and contribution to the field.

Publication Schedule

CHSS is published twice a year, with issues scheduled for July and December.

Manuscript Submission

CHSS accepts manuscripts through its online journal submission system. Authors should register or log in to the journal website and submit their manuscripts electronically in accordance with the Author Guidelines.

Before submission, authors should ensure that their manuscripts:

  • Fall within the journal's focus and scope.

  • Meet the formatting and referencing requirements.

  • Include all required declarations, including authorship, funding, and conflicts of interest, where applicable.

  • Have been checked for originality and appropriate citation of sources.

  • Have been prepared to support the journal's double-blind peer-review process, with identifying information removed from the review manuscript where required.

Plagiarism Policy

CHSS is committed to maintaining academic integrity and preventing plagiarism and other forms of publication misconduct. All submitted manuscripts may be screened using plagiarism-detection software to identify substantial textual overlap with previously published works or other sources.

Authors must ensure that their submissions are original and that the ideas, words, data, and findings of others are appropriately acknowledged and cited. Plagiarism, including self-plagiarism and the unauthorised reuse of previously published material, is unacceptable.

Where substantial overlap or suspected plagiarism is identified, the journal may request an explanation from the authors, return the manuscript for clarification, reject the submission, or take further action in accordance with the seriousness of the case and the journal's publication ethics procedures. Suspected misconduct involving published articles may result in a correction or retraction where warranted.

All cases will be assessed fairly, with due consideration of the evidence and an opportunity for the authors to respond.

Allegations of Research Misconduct

CHSS takes allegations of research misconduct seriously. Research misconduct may include, but is not limited to:

  • Fabrication or falsification of research data.

  • Plagiarism and inappropriate reuse of published material.

  • Manipulation of images, data, or research results.

  • Duplicate publication or inappropriate simultaneous submission.

  • Improper attribution of authorship.

  • Undisclosed conflicts of interest that materially affect the research or its interpretation.

  • Unethical research practices, including failure to obtain required ethical approval or informed consent.

  • Manipulation of the peer-review or publication process.

CHSS follows COPE guidelines in handling allegations of misconduct. When an allegation is received, the editor will conduct an initial assessment to determine whether it warrants further investigation. Where appropriate, the journal may request explanations, supporting data, ethics approval documents, or other relevant evidence from the authors.

If the allegation cannot be resolved through editorial assessment, the journal may contact the authors' affiliated institutions, research funders, or other relevant authorities, as appropriate. The journal will maintain confidentiality to the extent possible and provide the parties concerned with a fair opportunity to respond.

Depending on the findings, actions may include rejection of a manuscript, correction or retraction of a published article, notification of relevant institutions, or other appropriate measures.

Conflict of Interest

All authors must disclose any financial or non-financial interests that could reasonably be perceived to influence the research, its interpretation, or the presentation of its findings. Such interests may include employment, consultancies, financial support, personal relationships, institutional affiliations, intellectual property interests, or other relevant competing interests.

All sources of financial support for the research must be acknowledged in the manuscript.

Editors and reviewers must also disclose any conflicts of interest that could compromise their impartiality. Individuals with a relevant conflict must withdraw from the assessment or editorial decision-making process, where appropriate.

The editorial team will evaluate disclosed conflicts and determine whether additional measures are necessary to preserve the integrity and transparency of the publication process. Relevant disclosures should be published alongside the article where appropriate.

Corrections and Retractions

CHSS is committed to maintaining the accuracy and integrity of its published scholarly record. The journal will consider corrections, expressions of concern, or retractions when significant errors or concerns are identified after publication. This policy follows COPE guidance in handling the issue.

Corrections may be issued when an error affects the accuracy, clarity, or interpretation of an article but does not invalidate its overall findings or conclusions.

Retractions may be issued when an article is found to contain seriously unreliable findings, substantial plagiarism, fabricated or falsified data, or other serious breaches of publication ethics that undermine the validity or integrity of the work.

Expressions of concern may be published when there are credible concerns about an article but an investigation has not yet reached a conclusive outcome.

Requests for corrections or concerns about published articles should be submitted to the editorial office with supporting evidence. The editor will assess the information, consult the authors or relevant parties where appropriate, and determine the necessary action.

Correction and retraction notices should clearly identify the affected article, explain the reason for the action, and be linked to the original publication. Retracted articles should remain identifiable in the scholarly record, with their retracted status clearly indicated.

Peer Review Process

Double Blind Peer Review

All manuscripts are subject to double-blind peer review and are expected to meet standards of academic excellence. Reviewers for the submitted manuscripts of the journal are nominated, selected, and approved by the journal editors. Reviewer's and authors' identities will remain anonymous. Submissions will be considered by peer reviewers only after the approval of editors.

English Editing during Production Process

The accepted manuscript in CHSS, after a double-blind peer-review process, should pass proofread-English editing to ensure the quality of the language of the article, thus providing benefits to the reader. For non-native speakers, we request the authors conduct it using professional English Language Editing. The certificate proof of the English language editing should be provided during the copy-editing process before publication. Alternatively, we offer the authors to conduct the English editing through services as follows:

Provide readers, in About the Journal, with a statement about the system this journal will use and its expected frequency of publication.

Author Fees

CHSS does not charge authors any fees for submitting, reviewing, or publishing their manuscripts. There is no article processing charge (APC). Authors are not required to pay publication fees for accepted articles. Readers can access published articles free of charge through the journal's website under the journal's open-access policy.
